Send money from the UAE to Pakistan
By RemitInsights Editorial. Updated October 2026. We do not move money; we explain the options.
The UAE is one of the busiest routes into Pakistan. This guide shows how the transfer works, where the real cost hides, and how to check any quote in a minute.
Quick summary
- Judge by what arrives. Compare the amount of rupees your recipient receives, not the advertised fee.
- The exchange rate is usually the biggest cost. A "zero fee" transfer can still cost more than one with a small fee.
- Use licensed channels. Banks, licensed exchange houses and regulated apps give you a receipt and legal protection.
- Bank deposits are often fastest. Pakistan's instant payment system, Raast, can credit accounts within seconds when your provider connects to it.
How big is this corridor?
The UAE is Pakistan's second-largest source of remittances after Saudi Arabia. According to State Bank of Pakistan data reported by Khaleej Times, Pakistanis in the UAE sent about $750 million home in August 2026, and monthly inflows from the UAE passed $1 billion for the first time in May 2026. Because so many senders and providers compete here, comparing is worth the effort.
Ways to send, and how they differ
| Type | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Licensed exchange house (branch or app) | Cash pickup, walk-in help, wide payout network | Rate markup and branch queues |
| Bank transfer | Larger amounts, account-to-account | Fees on both ends and slower speed |
| Digital money transfer app | Convenience, transparent quotes, bank and wallet payouts | Identity checks, sending limits for new users |
We do not list fees here because they change daily. Always get a live quote from each provider you are considering.
Payout options in Pakistan
- Bank account deposit. The recipient needs an account number or IBAN. Many deposits arrive the same day, and Raast connectivity can make them near-instant.
- Cash pickup. The recipient collects cash at a partner branch with valid ID. Reaches people without bank accounts, but fees and rates can be less favourable.
- Mobile wallet. Some providers pay into wallets such as JazzCash. Check which wallets your provider supports.
- Home delivery. Offered by some providers in certain areas. Confirm availability first.
The State Bank of Pakistan promotes formal channels and the Roshan Digital Account programme for non-resident Pakistanis. If you hold or plan to open such an account, ask your bank how it treats incoming transfers.
How to check any quote in three steps
- Get quotes from at least three licensed providers for the same amount at the same time.
- Enter each provider's fee and exchange rate in the calculator above. It compares them with the mid-market rate and shows the total cost as a percentage.
- Pick the provider that delivers the most rupees by the method you need, at a speed that suits you. Learn why the mid-market rate matters.
What you need to send from the UAE
- A valid Emirates ID for residents, or a passport for visitors.
- The recipient's full name exactly as on their ID, plus bank details, wallet number or pickup details.
- Possible extra documents for larger amounts, such as proof of source of funds. Providers must follow anti-money-laundering rules and may ask questions.
Each provider sets its own limits. Pakistan does not tax personal remittances on arrival, according to the sources we reviewed, but rules can change, so confirm with the State Bank of Pakistan or your bank.
Avoid these mistakes and scams
- Unlicensed informal channels (hundi or hawala). They may be cheaper but offer no protection if money goes missing, and regulators discourage them.
- Pressure to send urgently to someone you have not verified, such as "customs fees", prizes or investment offers.
- Advertised rates that change at checkout. Check the final screen before you confirm.
- Wrong recipient details. Double-check the name, account number and IBAN. Mistakes can delay or lose funds.
- Fake agents and apps. Use official app stores and check the provider on the regulator's list. UAE providers should be licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE.
What is changing
In 2025 the State Bank of Pakistan and the Arab Monetary Fund agreed to work on linking Raast with the Arab region's Buna payment system, aiming at faster and cheaper cross-border transfers. We will update this page when the link goes live.
